Institute of Dental Science & Research is located in Gulbarga district
of Karnataka. The institute was established in 1986 by Hyderabad Karnataka
Education (HKE) Society. Initially, the institute was under Gulbarga University
but in 1996, its affiliation was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health
Science (RGUHS) Bangalore. It offers a five year course in Bachelor of Dental
surgery (B.D.S). The college provides good infrastructure facilities to the
students. It has spacious classrooms, well-stocked library, Dentures workshop,
well-equipped laboratories and clinical dental departments. It also provides
hostel facility for both boys and girls which would be fruitful for the
students who live outside Gulbarga city. The town and the Institution are well
connected by train and bus and also, many food joints and good places in the
city enable students to go for a hangout and refresh themselves of their hectic
schedules and enjoy themselves.

Undergraduate:
The candidate must have completed 10+2 examination or
equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum 50% marks (40% for
SC/ST), from any recognized Board.
Post Graduate:
Graduation in BDS as recognized by Indian Dental Council is
needed for this program.
Admission Procedure:
Undergraduate:
Candidates have to appear in the UG COMED-K Entrance Test
for 50% seats under merit quota and remaining 50% for Common Entrance Test
(CET).
BDS Course
50% of seats are reserved for the merit quota and the same
will be filled by the Government of Karnataka from among the students appearing
for the Common Entrance Test (C.E.T.), being held in April/May of each year.50%
of the seats are earmarked to be filled by the management among the students
appearing for the UG COMED-K Entrance Test.
Qualification
- Candidates who have passed the two years Pre-University
Examination or Equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional
subjects are eligible for admission to the first year.
- The candidate shall have obtained not less than 50% of the
aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology taken together at the
qualifying examination or any other examination recognised as equivalent by
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.
- Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students shall be given
relaxation of 10% in the aggregate marks required for eligibility.
- A candidate should have secured a minimum of 50% of marks in
Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the competitive entrance
examination where such examinations are held for selection.
Age Requirement
The candidate shall have completed the age of 17 years at
the time of admission or will complete this age on 31st December of the year in
which he/she seeks admission.

under Graduate dental training programme leading to BDS of 5 years with 240
teaching days in each academic year as per the dental council of India, revised
BDS course regulation 2007. The same is adopted by Rajiv Gandhi University of
Health Science.

Admissions 2015
HKES’s Nijalingappa Institute of Dental Sciences and
Research, Gulbarga, started in 1986 in the government Hospital’s dental wing,
by the then President of the Hyderabad Karnataka education Society. In 1897,
the college shifted to the HKE’S 6 acre land in Sedam Road, Gulbarga. The
college conducts BDS and MDS courses for the aspiring students who are willing
to make a career in dentistry.
BDS is an under graduate course in dentistry which requires
5 and half years of continuous perseverance by the students. The course also
requires the students to undergo compulsory internship in their final year,
preparing them to face the competitions of the ever evolving needs of
dentistry, independently. Every year 40 under graduate, efficient dentists are
produced by the institute. MDS is a 3 year post graduate course, introduced by
the college in 1993. MDS is offered in specialitites of Periodontics, Prosthodontics,
Conservative Endodontics and Orthodontics, to 10 students every year. All the
courses of the college are affiliated to the RGUHS, Delhi. The college campus
houses 10 clinical departments, in addition to the central library, auditorium
and the lecture halls. The college provides separate hostel facilities to the
boys and girls along with well maintained hygienic cafeteria. The college also
has Community Health Service facilities managed by the staff of the Preventive
and Community department.
